Introduction

Drop-In

Quote-of-the-week

“But let us thank God that we are still very far from travel to other worlds. I have wondered before now whether the vast astronomical distances may not be God’s quarantine precautions. They prevent the spiritual infection of a fallen species from spreading.”

C.S. Lewis, Religion and Rocketry

Biographical Information

The first co-host is Jordan… Jordan, famously sought after bachelor. He’s an excellent youth worker and worship leader. He’s the sort of scholar that spreads JI Packer on toast and the kind of science fiction fan who drinks a pint of Cylon’s blood for breakfast.

The second co-host is Sean… Sean is the President of Eston College where he and Jordan became friends. He is married to Melissa and has three young children. He’s the sort of avid hunter who has organ meat on toast — the kind of spiritual leader who drinks a pint of Celtic monks blood for breakfast.

Guest Biographical Information

Chit-Chat

This is the extended audio version on an earlier Half Pint video chat with Jordan and Sean:

Toast

  • David was drinking a glass of tepid water since the recording took place on Ash Wednesday.
  • Jordan was drinking Lapsang Souchong tea.
  • Sean was drinking Mexican hot chocolate.
  • We toasted in Turkish: “Serefe!”, which means “To Honour!”

Discussion

1. “Previous Lewis experience”

Q. So gentlemen, what had been your experience of Lewis prior to starting the podcast?

2. “Why start a podcast?”

Q. Why did you guys start a podcast?

Aravis immediately began, sitting quite still and using a rather different tone and style from her usual one. For in Calormen, story-telling (whether the stories are true or made up) is a thing you’re taught, just as English boys and girls are taught essay-writing. The difference is that people want to hear the stories, whereas I never heard of anyone who wanted to read the essays.

C.S. Lewis, The Horse and His Boy (Chapter 2)

3. “The podcast”

Q. How is your podcast structured, how long do they last, what kind of material have you covered so far?

4. “Future plans”

Q. What will you be discussing in future seasons?

5. “What have you learned?”

Q. It’s always fun hanging out with fellow podcasters because I find it interesting to compare experiences. What would you say you’ve learned over the course of doing the show so far?

6. “The most difficult part”

Q. What has been the hardest part of working on this project?

7. “Silent Planet essays”

Q. What essays did Lewis write which relate to Out of the Silent Planet?

  • The Seeing Eye
  • Religion and Rocketry

8. “Essay: The Seeing Eye”

Q. What did you guys make of “The Seeing Eye”?

9. “Essay: Religion and Rocketry”

Q. So, on to the second related essay. What are your thoughts on “Religion and Rocketry”?

10. “Is Turkish Delight good?”

Q. Is Turkish Delight from Turkey any good?
