Podcast Hosts

David and Matt met at a party in 2017 and, before long, they were soon talking about the works of C.S. Lewis: “What? You too? I thought I was the only one.”

They soon began a local C.S. Lewis reading group. A few months later they launched a podcast so those outside of San Diego could join in, and also to help others encounter Lewis’ works. They initially called it The Eagle and Child, after the pub where the Inklings would meet, but when they came to purchase a website domain, they changed the name to match their social media handles, Pints With Jack.

After being a guest on the show several times, Andrew Lazo, Lewis Scholar and then Episcopalian Seminarian, officially joined the Pints With Jack team in 2020 for Season 4. That season David audio editing was taken over by Taylor Schroll who edits our Riverside.fm audio.

DAVID BATES

After working as a Software Engineer in England for several years, David moved to the United States in 2008, where he settled in San Diego. Then, in 2020 he married his wife, Marie, and moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin. Together they have a one-year-old son, Alexander.

His is wife runs the Pints With Chesterton podcast with her friend, Grace.

Before parenthood left him constantly craving sleep, David wrote regularly at RestlessPilgrim.net and was a visiting speaker on the subjects of Scripture, Church History and Evangelization.

MATT BUSH

Born in Holland (Michigan), Matt was raised a Christian. His faith grew significantly during a trip to Israel after High School, where he walked in the footsteps of Jesus and His Apostles.

During his time at Notre Dame, he wrestled greatly with Christianity, nearly becoming an atheist during his year studying at Oxford, England. Thankfully, he was introduced to C.S. Lewis by a friend, who showed him the real truth and beauty of Christianity for the first time.
