Charles Williams on the Almanac

Today is Charles Williams’ birthday and he was the subject of today’s Christian History Almanac. In the episode I learnt two new facts:

  1. Charles Williams competed in the olympics (sort of)!
  2. The words “Under the mercy” appears on his grave stone

A few nitpicks from the show though:

  1. I don’t think I’d really call C.S. Lewis an Anglo-Catholic. In Mere Christianity he describes himself as “a very ordinary layman of the Church of England, not especially ‘high,’ nor especially ‘low,’…”.
  2. There’s A LOT to unpack in the sentence “He was something of lady’s man”
  3. In Essays Presented to Charles Williams, Tolkien’s essay is called “On Fairy-Stories”
