Bonus – Announcements (“Birthdays & Conferences”)

We have some announcements about births and conferences…

Show Notes

01. “Happy Birthday!”

Happy birthday to listener, Nick Wagoner! Congratulations on…

  • …your awesome wife
  • …wonderful baby

We have learned from Freud and others about those distortions in character and errors in thought which result from a man’s early conflicts with his father. Far the most important thing that we can know about George Macdonald is that his whole life illustrates the opposite process. An almost perfect relationship with his father was the earthly root of all his wisdom. From his own father, he said, he first learned that Fatherhood must be at the core of the universe.

02. “No Shrub!”

Matt Bush has not yet had his baby… the little shrub keeps pretending like he’s going to make an appearance and then they have to come home from the hospital, so prayers please!

03. “Chicago Conference”

We have previously interviewed Julianna Slager about “Bareface”, the Till We Have Faces ballet, which we later reviewed.

Well, on March 13–14, the same team who produced that ballet is hosting The Thick & the Clear: C.S. Lewis and the Arts. It’s a two-day gathering in Chicago on beauty, story, and why Till We Have Faces still won’t leave us alone.

Speakers include:

There are two kinds of ticket availble:

  • Full weekend pass, including ballet performance: $250
  • Performance-only: $45

04. “Oregon Conference”

We’ve previously spoken on the show about The Undiscovered C. S. Lewis Conference at George Fox University in Oregon two years ago. Well, the conference is happening again September 24–27, 2026!

I might not be able to make this one, but Andrew has already booked his ticket! Not only can you buy your ticket at georgefox.edu, they are also inviting anyone to submit anonymous proposals of 300 to 500 words. The deadline is March 31st. Proposals should be for 20-minute papers in one of the six categories of our general theme “the undiscovered C.S. Lewis”.

As a public-facing academic conference, they invite papers that are scholarly but accessible to a wider public audience. Submissions are welcome from scholars at every career stage, and limited scholarships (free conference registrations) are available for students or independent scholars with accepted papers.

05. “Pilgrimage with Andrew”

Andrew is excited to invite you to Lewis, Patrick, the Reformation and You — a 10-day pilgrimage through Ireland and England co-hosted by us, the C.S. Lewis Foundation, and EdenGate Travel & Missions.

From July 20–29, 2026, join Andrew as he walks in the footsteps of saints, scholars, and reformers whose lives shaped the world we live in today. You’ll encounter:

  • Dublin’s rich literary and spiritual landscape, connecting Lewis’s ideas with the life of the city.
  • Pagan Ireland and the power of the Gospel, seeing how the story of faith transformed a nation.
  • The Mourne Mountains, landscapes that inspired Lewis’s imagination.
  • Sites associated with Saint Patrick’s mission, where the Gospel first took root.
  • Oxford’s Christian and Reformation heritage, from spiritual discovery to enduring legacy.

Whether you’re exploring the roots of Celtic Christianity, tracing Lewis’s imaginative footsteps, or walking the Reformation’s enduring legacy, this pilgrimage invites you into meaningful encounters with history, faith, and hope.
